Combine ALC Systems In One View For Tenants

Written by Kaarle Parikka | Jun 30, 2022 8:53:38 AM

ALC systems combine important information from specialised equipment to make it easier to access and control information about the building. When these ALC systems are all combined into one central system, it becomes even easier to access and control all information. This doesn't only make for a more efficient, sustainable building, but also creates more transparency for tenants regarding different building functions.

What Is An ALC System?

Simply put, an Automated Logic Control system (ALC system) controls a certain function in a building. ALC systems collect and communicate data between devices and specialised equipment. This enables property managers to access and control their building systems in one place.

For example, an ALC system can be the building's security system. This incorporates everything from cameras and motion sensors to passwords and emergency buttons.

ALC systems are also often used to control the internal climate of a building. The system will gather information about the HVAC system (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) in the facility.

ALC systems can control several other individual systems, such as fire safety, lighting and access control systems.

Combining all ALC systems into one single interface makes it much easier to monitor and manage the many complex, and often interrelated, systems. This helps to ensure the commercial premises run smoothly for the tenants. Doing so can improve occupant comfort and increase safety and security.

How Are ALC Systems Typically Managed In Commercial Properties?

Typically, ALC Systems are managed separately. For example, the fire safety system will operate separately from the HVAC system and all other systems. Each system will have its own control system or program. So, they all operate independently from other control systems in the building.

ALC systems are not typically combined into one centralised system. As such, both tenants and property management are not usually able to access all the systems from one place. Instead, they will have to go to each ALC system individually, which in the long run can cause frustrations and lack of information. Tenants may also forget to check every separate system, and report about shortcomings that may have already been logged.

Why Does It Make Sense To Combine All The ALC Systems Into One View?

If all ALC systems are linked to one centralised platform, it makes it a lot easier for both tenants and property managers to control and find information. They don't have to first locate the system responsible for that information. Rather, they have everything they need in one place.

One centralised system also makes it a lot easier to gain a holistic view of all the systems. It affords tenants and property managers an overview of these systems, making it easier for them to track activity and performance over time. As a result, it becomes easier to identify and fix inefficiencies and problems and improve the lifecycle of specialised equipment.

In turn, it makes it easier to track and improve a building's sustainability, as well as the communication flow with all stakeholders of the building. The sustainability of an organisation (which can be broken down into Environmental, Social and Governance components) is fast becoming the main priority for many property rental businesses.

Meeting the sustainability concerns of tenants helps improve tenant experience and leads to more loyal tenants. Combining ALC systems into one view can help do just that.

Final Thoughts

A commercial building will usually use several complex, interrelated systems to run. Although this might be fine for the individuals who have overseen their installation, it can cause confusion for the tenants who would also need to see the information of the systems. But When these are unified into one centralised system, it becomes a lot easier to access and control important information. This can help optimise these systems for a more efficient, sustainable building, prevent any ESG related incidents, and create transparency for tenants on the fitness level of the building.
